Can We Talk?

Can We Talk is Life in My Days Mental Health Campaign in Jordan. The campaign aims to start a conversation around Mental Health in our communities.  Can we Talk will not only start these conversations, but also create the foundation necessary for us to sustain dialogues and programs long after the campaign is over. The purpose of the campaign is to build safe spaces where individuals can belong, and a supportive community built on a foundation of compassion.

Can We Talk team is a group of volunteers from various universities in Jordan. The core team was founded by medical students in the University of Jordan. The team is part of the Jordan Chapter of Life in My Days, a non profit organization founded in the USA and does work all over the world. Life in My Days works on opening up difficult conversations related to mental health, systemic oppression and wellness. Can We Talk team has started a Mental Health Awareness campaign in March 2017 which aims to decrease the stigma toward mental health, increase proper awareness provided by specialists and how to reach wellness and establish support networks around the community. We plan to start a Student Support Network to have a foundation for university students for self care, self acceptance and proper support.

Why Is This Campaign Needed?

With an ever changing community in Jordan we are seeing a greater demand for Mental Health services and support. Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding Mental Illness and seeking treatment makes it nearly impossible for individuals to seek treatment at the onset of Mental Illness, and instead are only seeking treatment when they’re dealing with severe mental illness, if they reach out at all.

Communities and individuals are in need to professional resources who can support their healing process. Yet, these issues remain unsafe topics to discuss in public.

Our Work

Through series of programs and mini-campaigns, we will raise awareness on issues that impact our Mental Health such as mental health and disabilities, abuse and trauma, and social injustices. We will also  provide tools to facilitate healing. We will also connect individuals and communities with resources for the future through our partners and sponsors. Through this program we will reach individuals and communities that are most in need, and are searching for ways to build safe spaces.
